HG Update 14th August 09

Today the worship leader was Ee June along with piano. Kent, Andy, David, Christina and myself were on guitars, drums, singing and bass respectively.

Today Pastor continued in his studies series. Again I say this is the one most hard to swallow for me.

He reminded us to have everything you have in front of you in one go. Example, forget your calculator and rush down to grab it. You see a pack of Twisties and you take a bite. As you are about to go upstairs and study, The Simpsons is on air. Then it goes on and on....

Another method is to make your short term memory become long term memory. Why? A short term memory you'll forget it in a time span of at least a week. A long term memory will last for many years. Example, how to break an egg without bursting the yolk or how to play a song on the guitar or piano. For this to happen, all it needs is practice. Nothing else. So long story short, practice is the bread and butter of studies. Won't go anywhere without it. You'll be out of a job without practice.

He also taught us the SQ3R method which is
- Survey
- Read
- Recite
- Review

Survey is a quick dash of the chapter or sub-chapter so that you know what you're in for. Gives you an idea and prepares your brain.

Question is to ask yourself logic questions that has ties to the chapter. Once the brain actively searches for something, it speeds up.

Read the topic to answer your questions. And write down the answers for your questions.

When you're done. Recite what you've read for the past half an hour. Then check back to see if you got it right.

Review is the epilogue of the study process. Do some exercise to close the lid for good.

To close it up, we cleaned the church and most of us went for dinner.

HG Update 7th August 09

Today, we had something special. The worship team consisted of David, Witton, Kent, Andy and Christina. Kuria stepped in for piano. Gradzie...

Today, both Kuria and David shared about their experiences joining the OM ministry in Laos. This served as an educational lesson on the country of Laos, their people, culture and who can forget, their food. It also gives us an understanding that although we might not be rich, there's always someone who is poorer. And also, this mission trip enhanced David's spiritual walk.

OK, our "wakil" from Kuala Terengganu attended a few days training in Malaysia before leaving the country. They were joined by people of many nationalities. Both Caucasians and Asians.

Now onto the mission, the mission they undertook wasn't a walk in the park. No McDonalds, no TV, no air-conditioned rooms and no roti canai. Laos is a very poor country that is pillaged with poverty. But through the pictures, I can see that Laos is a beautiful country. Lush green canopy forests, towering waterfalls, and those old fashioned temples built without using nails but relying only on hinges.

Our friends went to several villages to preach the gospel, a risky business because the government hates people like them. Aren't they always? Anyway, despite the overwhelming language barrier, our boys did very well I should say. Doing The Lord's entrusted task and that is to "Preach To All Nations".

At the end, David described this mission trip as the thing that saved his faith. He described his faith to have slumped from great heights during his time away from home. David, you did good pal. The Lord will expect great things from you.

A Good Christian

What makes a man a good Christian? There are many things that people consider as merits but in fact are useless. The truth is, most "Christians" are like this guy here.

Before I go to what makes you a good Christians, let's take a look at what doesn't make you a good Christian.

These are the things that most Christians call merits in order to enter heaven. Example, Mafia Chief's in Sicily often donate huge sums of money to their churches. They just register as Christians then let the ink dry. Like I said in an earlier post "What's the use of a contract if you violated the terms and conditions".

- It is not how much the Pastor loves you.
- It is not how often you go to church.
- It is not having parents who are Pastors or Priests.
- It is not how often you play or sing at the church.
- It is not how popular you are in the church.
- It is not how much money you gave as offerings.
- It is not the fact that you wear crucifix.

These are somethings that help makes you a righteous man but it does not make you a better Christian. However, these are VERY IMPORTANT THINGS. If they did such terrible sins, well no sin is beyond the point of redemption except for defying Christ at the end of your life.

- It is because you read the bible very often.
- It is not how often you pray.
- It is not how often you listen to Christian or Gospel music.
- It is not the fact that you've never watch porn or masturbated.
- It is not the fact that you have no criminal records.

I tell you why some of those points above does not make you a good Christian. A man can go reading the bible wishing he was reading Harry Potter. A man can go listening to Hillsong ans wishing he was listening to Metallica.

So what makes us a GOOD Christian. It is How much you love Jesus. Someone might say, how do you love Jesus.

- It is how much you are willing to die for him.
- It is how much you are willing to follow His word.
- It is how much you are willing to sacrifice everything to Him(Career, possessions, relationships, habits, etc.).

It is how much you want Him. He once said "Anyone who thirsts for me, I will let his cup overflow."

Updates for 31st July 09

Well, we had a guest speaker for this week but lets get to the worship team 1st XD.. Worship was lead by June!! Guitarist is me and Jim, Witter on the drums and Andy on the bass. Princess Christina as June's back vocal XD. The songs were Majesty, Lord of Lords(awesome song), Beautiful saviour and Here in my Life. We sang the 1st song Majesty, then we take a short break to listen to our guest speaker that is Joo Ping from China!!

He shared bout his life on China, How God has called him and his wife to share the good news to china. Well, he showed us some pictures from china through power point. Well, he says that the citizens of China is now open minded. They are trying to follow the western culture which is not good. Having sex before marriage, taking drugs, prostitution, etc are happening in China. So we need to pray for this nation and for our guest speaker Joo Ping and his wife Chris teo.

After he had done sharing, we continued worshipping God. After worshipping, we spent some time praying. We prayed for all His Generation alumni. After praying, we continue worshipping God by singing the song Hosanna.

Soon, its Jim's turn to share bout his exprience as an exchange student in The United States of America. Well, the 1st this he said was USA is not a christian country. Its a very open country. People there make fun of christianity by using swear words. At school, 9/10 students take drugs such as weeds, marihuana and much more. Students there also sleeping around with other girls.

Well, our bro Jim managed to get through this strong temptation without falling into it. Wanna know why? Its because of His Generation!! Our basic foundation of the bible is learnt form His Generation. So we really need to get grounded into God's commandment. After that, we clean up the sanctuary and went home safely =)

Update 24th July

Wow. After months of slow updates, finally a punctual update.

Today the worship team comprised of Jim, Ivan, Christina, Ee June, Jeffery Andy and myself.

Today marked my first day in the job of the church's accountant. A big responsibility eh? The tithes and offerings will be collected and used for mission trips, church repair, maintenance of the musical instruments and ESP camp.

Today, we had two people sharing. First was Teo who came back after eons of patient waits. It was announced that he will do his culinary practicals on the MV Logos Hope in a short time where he will finish sometime in late December. Set sail, MATEY!

Before he leaves us for some time, he gave us some last advice. It's about how deep is our faith. He compares a shallow faith and a true genuine faith. About how most people come and act good only on Fridays and being brutes addicted to porn at other days. It was much like my stone and sponge post earlier. Read that for more info.

Then Pastor came up with unfortunately one of my most dreaded topics which is How to Study. Today, he talks about a cohesive studying environment which lacks distraction. Kids! No listening to music while you're studying. He also mentions the study chair must be comfortable but not too comfortable which means no studying on the sofa or bed.

Then he talked about why we feel sleepy when we study. It could be
- Lack of exercise.
- Eating too much cabohydrate rich foods.
- Lack of sleep.
- Attitude Problem.

So we need to counter them by exercising more, eat more greens, early to bed and early to rise and get our brains right.

On the other hand, we are also advised to do the subject we hate the most first. Honestly speaking, I don't even bother about Add Maths at home. I just rush em up at school and the result is a "kerja komang". Will I change? I don't know, it's hard to adapt myself in an environment with a truckload of homework and revision. I only enjoy ENGLISH and maybe some of the science subjects but that's it.

Then finally we prayed for Teo in preparation for his voyage on MV Logos Hope. So Teo, I bid you "Bon Voyage" and always remember.

"With Christ in the vessel, We can smile at the storm!"

Picture Of the Week!

This is the day before Superman created! XD

17th of July 2009

I'm really sorry for late update.. I couldn't online.. Well, I'm not going to point to anyone, helpers of this blog. So, lets go on =P

Today, we have Witton as the worship leader!! This is the first time he lead hehe :p nice job! and Christina and me as the back singer. Thank you for June the pianist, Ivan the drummer, Andy the bassist and, also Kent and Willert the guitarist! Oh ya, and also Jeffery for helping in PA system. XD

After the worship, a few minutes break for kitchen and toilet =p and today.. Aunt Dorcas shared about Thou Shall Not Steal (continue) , giving more complex example for stealing that might not look like stealing or when we are working.

Hmm, first one was, when we buying something for company's usage , pen paper etc.. we might tend to increase the "price" of the stationary so, we earn from it. Ha! that's stealing! and also Sometimes, we also can claim for car fuel price. Telling that you went 3km to buy thing but instead, the real truth is you just went for a stone far to buy it and you asking for higher claim. It's stealing indirectly from the company!

For a contractor or businessman, sometimes government give them some project to develop for building and other program. Normally what I heard from what people said, is they give more money than what the project should cost. It's using government's money illegally and also corruptions.

After Aunt Dorcas gave and explain some examples, it's our turn to give examples XD Some give borrowing things and never give back the property or trying to keep it. If we are not trying/ making effort to give back what we had borrowed, that means stealing!

Or, another example, really common one, it's copyright stealing. Nowadays, people see it as if it's nothing wrong with that. Hacking software, music sharing, pirated movie and also photostatting books (without permission from author/creator) are a form of stealing where I used to do it alot. Just a click on computer and you can enjoy your content. BUT, it's still stealing. Satan make it looks un-sinful (hehe new word? XD) and desiring for those who spent time on computer alot.

Aha! we finish this topic quite early as 6 pm , so the rest of time for cleaning and having fun together! XD

Team XD

Witton! =p
Meee XD aw, i looked fat haha

HG Update - 10th July

Today Jim returned from the USA with an American flag in tow. But the puzzle wasn't complete because Julia failed to attend due to reasons unknown. It's okay. We had a team from Scripture Union to deliver a message on the history of the Bible.

Yes, the history of the greatest piece of literature ever written in history. Just like the stories of the bible, the history of the bible is also awesome.

Did you know that...

- The bible has been copied over thousands of times using clay tablets, scrolls, papyrus sheets, fabric and animal skin before the idea of printing was bestowed upon mankind.

- That a man copying the bible must read out loud every single word before writing them down. Wah, sipek ma fan.

- Before a man copying the bible writes the word God, he must go mandi and use a special pen before proceeding. Imagine how much Dettol he used.

- Early tablets and scrolls with inscriptions of The Word Of God had been stored in The Ark of Covenant. Luckily they were rescued from the invading Babylonians from Solomon's Table. The ark itself is now missing.

- The bible has been translated into many languages including Greek, Hebrew, Latin and English.

These are just a tiny portion of the amazing facts we've absorbed. We also know that the stories we now have in the bible are filtered through a process called canonization. If every single story has been placed in the bible, it'll be thicker than all 7 Harry Potter books combined.

We also found out the bible has certain glitches. It is human nature to err. C'mon la, even Stephen King, Mario Puzo or Shakespear will make certain changes if the write the same story twice.

Anyway, it was a fun lesson. However, I was question-less for the day, I don't know why? We hope to see you again soon Scripture Union.

His Generation : 3rd July 2009

Last week, His Generation have our youth fellowship again. =D For this week!! Ee June as worship leader and Witton backing up June! Kent and Witton were the guitarist. Andy as the bassist and Witter da drummer! Thank you for wonderful worship session. XD

After the worship session, we prayed for all His Generation's seniors which had left for further studies. Yea, pls do pray for them. Pray for God's blessing and protection to be with them. Then we prayed for Bro David!! Yea, David's going for a mission trip in Laos and needs prayer. Pls do pray for our brother cause Laos is a dangerous country where chrsitians were persecuted. Pls do pray for Sis Kuria too as she is leaving to Laos to do mission too. Keep them in prayer everyday.

Soon, pastor starts giving announcement. Ps. Koshy will not be in KT this week and The Scripture Union team will be sharing this week on the 10th of July. Sis Julia will be back to share her exprience too. Then our too brothers which are Kean Hui and Witter shared about their exprience in their university. Well, bro Kean Hui shared 1st. He says, to study and gain knowledge is not about reading books. Its about your attitude. Its about your will to study. So lets get our attitude right.

Kean Hui also talks about prayer. Before we study, we need to pray. Before the teacher starts teaching, we need to pray. Ask God to enable you to absorb and understand every knowledge given by our teacher. Prayer is not enough. We need to give full concentration and must not be distracted by other things. Then we had some fun and games hosted by Kean Hui. After he shared, he gave us some words of encouragement and a piece of paper filled with bible verse.

Why must we study?
- Its our responsiblity
-Our parents work hard to give us education
-Its a privillage from God that we can have education
-Other people in the world are not educated especially people in poor country
-For a better future
-To show that we had done our best in examination (Fail or pass, all glory goes to God =D)
-To reduce stress from our parents
-Its an order from our parents (Honour your father and mother, so that you may live long in the
land the Lord your God is giving you)
-To be well diciplined
-To prepare ourself to face the world

After that, its Witter's turn. Well, basiclly he gave a long lecture =D. But it helps a lot!! He talks about his daily study routine during examination in university. He shared his failure in SPM. Even the teachers mocked him. So, how he deal with this? Its through insults from teachers and friends. Yea, he never gave up and he want to show to everyone that he's the best. So, what he does is study everyday. He said that prayer is important too. Because of his perserverense and determination to be the best, He scored with flying colour in his STPM and was awarded the best student in SMKSS.

About gaming. Hmm, all i can say is delete it right now and reinstall after SPM, PMR and STPM. These addictive games will just help you to reduce stress awhile but in the end, you'll have to face your examintion. Guys, these major examinations are taken only once a year. So, give it your best shot by working hard for it. If I can quit Dota, I'm very sure you all can do it too.
